An Open Letter to US and State Senators, Reps and the Attorney General:
Dear Distinguished Senators, Governor, Lt. Governor and
Representatives:
As a culture, we seem to be growing increasingly fond of
savagely attacking previously inalienable liberties in the interest of a
greater (collective) good. And subscribing to this fondness, as the Left has
done almost without exception, seems
akin to an elitist fashion statement; last year it was bell bottoms and
bangs, this year it's persecuting Conservative opinions, pursuits and people,
every bit as viciously as the torment of Polish Jews in the early days of Nazi
occupation. (And all-the-while calling US Nazis or Fascists, only serves to
magnify the outrage with lethal doses of appalling hypocrisy, for which no one
holds them accountable.)
Gun owners in particular have been maligned by those in
Washington, Hollywood and the press, who are long on contempt and short on
integrity --- not to mention truth --- as they've abandoned the realm of
professional and social responsibility and embraced the title of Lapdogs for
the Communist Party, or worse. With the notable exceptions of Fox News and a
handful of veterans from the performing arts such as Clint Eastwood and Ted
Nugent, the rest have become insidious cancers on the face of everything
America USED to stand for, and are actually proud of themselves because of it.
True, we've suffered unimaginable tragedies, some involving
young children, at the hands of sociopathic monsters with guns. I can't even
imagine the unspeakable nightmare of the parents of Sandy Hook victims, seeing
their children's Holiday gifts under their lighted trees, knowing they'll never
be opened or enjoyed.
But to blame the NRA is an abomination on its face. Worse yet
is that those responsible for this know it. Just the same, if we want to talk
about the association, fine, let's talk about it:
Who was it that zealously advocated the genocide of white
Americans on some malevolent racist television show? It wasn't the NRA. (It was
an African-American actor and purported comedian.)
Who was it that threatened civil war and bloodshed over a
Right-to-Work bill he didn't like --- following a gangland-style attack on
innocent people that he apparently DID like? It wasn't the NRA. (It was a state
assemblyman.)
Who was it who fuel-injected untold scores of assault
weapons to border-hopping, drug-running hoodniks, who later turned them on
American border patrol agents --- and got away with it scott-free, both legally
and politically? It wasn't the NRA. (It was the current Administration.)
And who was it --- that is, who IS it --- who charges NONE
of the aforementioned with ANY accountability at all, no matter what they do,
including for actions which themselves had also caused death and mayhem? It
wasn't the NRA. (It's the media and Democratic officeholders for the most
part.)
So why is the association, and gun owners as a whole, being
demonized now?
We need to be reminded that in years' and decades' past,
when times
were safer and more peaceful, we had guns then, too. The
intelligent approach is not to compare modern times to those of yesteryear and
ask "what's the same as it was then?" --- that tells us nothing. The
thing to do is ask, "what has CHANGED?"
Until that question receives the attention it deserves from
lawmakers and the press, I urge you to vote a resounding NO on ANY gun control
bill that comes to the Senate floor, including those dealing with
Orwellian-style background checks the hoarding of personal data. Believe
me...FAR more harm would come from this than any possible good. Thank you.
